Senior Urban Planner

Lessard Design is an award-winning architectural firm that performs a wide variety of residential, commercial, and mixed -use projects both domestically and abroad. Our office is located in Tysons Corner, VA off of Leesburg Pike near Silver Line Metro stops.

We are looking for a Senior Urban Planner who is a self-motivator with an ability to succeed in a fast paced, deadline driven environment, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. We are looking for someone who can maintain strong working relationships with internal staff and clients. Responsible for generating conceptual master plans and architecture during the planning process on a variety of project types and scale. Consult with design department in developing and presenting conceptual design concepts. Function as a conduit between conceptual design process and architectural implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities for Senior Urban Planner:

  • Create strong creative and innovative design concepts for a range of project types including mixed use, retail, residential, commercial, land planning and transit-oriented development
  • Illustrate and present design solutions effectively through free hand sketching and computer aided design to create compelling presentations and convey intended vision to clients including architectural design solutions
  • Ability to collaborate in conceptual design work for master planning and urban design projects and develop from feasibility through detailed planning stage
  • Ensure timely delivery of high quality master planning projects within budget
  • Gather and document relevant data, regulatory aspects and physical conditions of study areas
  • Performs benchmarking research on programming, comparable projects and images.
  • Produce top quality designs that meet Clients’ expectations
  • Write contracts and Proposal Agreements with the Project Managers to develop appropriate fees, achievable schedules, and accurate contractual terms
  • Apply sustainable planning and design principles
  • Evaluate and take into consideration economic, social, regulatory and physical factors affecting planning and design decisions for proposed projects

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS), preferably in Architecture, Landscape Architecture or related field
  • License: preferred
  • 5+ year’s exp. in Urban Design, Architecture or related fields
  • Strong knowledge of Master Planning, grading and zoning analysis
  • Must have a strong understanding of all building types
  • Must have a thorough understanding of state/local codes and accessibility requirements meeting state and federal standards
  • Professional proficiency in AutoCAD & graphic software’s
  • Local to Washington D.C. Metro Area preferred
  • Free hand sketching is a required
