WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff has an immediate need for an Urban Planner/Urban Designer for our New York City planning practice. Our ideal candidate will be able to work in a team environment to plan, design and implement infrastructure projects in the northeast region and across North America. The selected candidate should be able to organize and partner with multi-disciplinary technical teams to design complex infrastructural solutions. We are seeking a creative and dynamic team player with strong communication skills, 2D and 3D graphic design capabilities, a passion for understanding of the issues that affect urban environments, knowledge of resiliency/sustainability, experience working with engineering disciplines and proven ability to manage public realm infrastructure and urban development projects.
Responsibilities:
- Interface with and/or lead planning, design and technical staff in support of a growing integrated urban strategies practice
- Lead an integrated design process that would include interface with architects, landscape architects, engineers and other technical teams
- Provide creative report writing and assignment writing skills
- Develop CAD/Illustrator/GIS maps, sections, plans and renderings
- Provide hand sketch and computer aided designs
- Provide meeting and table facilitation as part of community workshops
- Be available and able to travel nationally (usually 2 to 3 day segments) and throughout North America
Experience Required:
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in planning, urban design, landscape, architecture and/or architecture
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Positive attitude and strong communication skills – a team player
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Understanding of project budgets, administration, contracts and project management responsibilities.
- Ability to market the skills of the integrated urban strategies practice
- Ability to clearly describe planning concepts with words and images
- Ability to work in a corporate environment, communicating with a wide range of professional skill sets
- High quality hand sketching and computer graphic abilities
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in use of Adobe Creative Suite, (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design), GIS, 2D-CAD, (3D rendering capabilities a plus)
- Landscape architecture background/urban design background a plus
- Understanding of complete street and stormwater management design a plus
- Knowledge of zoning law and experience writing zoning code and text a plus
- AICP and/or LEED Accredited Professional a plus
Education Required:
- Graduate degree in planning, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, and/or other similar degree (with design focus)
