Join Stantec’s Urban Places Group to help us create the most livable, prosperous, sustainable, resilient, and equitable urban and urbanizing places in North America. The Urban Places Group is growing and we are looking for an urban designer to be based in our Boston office to support planning and urban design projects in the US and Canada. (www.stantec.com/our-work/sectors/community-development/urban-places.html) Stantec’s Urban Places Group (UPG) is an interdisciplinary specialized practice within a global consulting firm, offering opportunities to be involved in a variety of planning and urban design projects and collaborate with Stantec’s leading experts in a variety of fields.

Our plans create places, networks and infrastructure that connect people to place, to prosperity, and to each other. UPG planners and designers lead transformational planning and design projects in urban and urbanizing places across North America. The members of UPG have won dozens of planning and urban design awards for work ranging from downtown and district plans to community-wide and regional plans. We work closely with our colleagues across Stantec in architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, real estate, transportation, environmental science, and other disciplines to provide plans that are both visionary and feasible, driven by data and grounded in market realities.

Your Duties

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of planners, designers, engineers and specialists on a variety of projects at once.
  • Contribute to all phases of projects including analysis, design, public engagement and final production.
  • Create drawings and graphics including maps, diagrams, sketches, renderings and 3D models.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • A graduate degree in Urban Design, Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
  • 1 to 4 years of relevant experience.
  • A passion for placemaking, walkability, sustainability, resilience and innovation in urban design and planning.
  • An understanding of urban form, urban typologies and best practices in urban design and planning.
  • Strong communications skills--verbal, written, and especially graphic.
  • Experience with the production of planning reports and documents and a thorough knowledge and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite along with GIS map production and data management.
  • Ability to engage effectively with a wide variety of clients and stakeholders.
  • Desire and the ability to contribute on multiple levels within the design process are critical.
  • The ability to be located in Boston and willingness to travel as needed.
