Overview​

We are looking for someone with a design-oriented background that mixes architecture and urban design to deepen our Causeway Street-based Boston team’s design capabilities and manage projects both locally and elsewhere.
 
Join Stantec’s Urban Places Group, an interdisciplinary, cross-continental team of planners and designers leading large, complex, transformational planning and redevelopment projects across North America. We work closely with our architecture, engineering, environmental, landscape architecture, real estate development, smart city, transportation and other colleagues across Stantec to help a diverse range of public and private clients realize the full range of benefits that flow from walkable downtowns, neighborhoods, and corridors. Duties

Business Development

Assist in the developing and promoting knowledge leadership and content marketing that distinguishes Stantec's Urban Places Group.
Identify leads and engage colleagues in the successful pursuit of new design, development, and planning projects.

Enhance our Urban Design Practice

We expect the candidate to be part of the leadership team in Community Development and to actively assist the Business, Sector and Discipline Leaders in the development of the Urban Design pursuit strategy and project delivery 

Increase the visibility of Stantec’s Urban Places Group in the internal Stantec and external development, design and planning communities.
Build relationships with other Stantec discipline areas and sectors and capitalize on new business opportunities to grow these areas.
Assist in the recruitment of new planning and urban design staff.   

Mentor and lead the existing urban design staff that as well as new urban design staff on a daily basis to further their professional development and to foster succession planning.

Assist our leadership in creating a more cohesive and collaborative network of urban designers firm-wide.
Build our relationship with key staff firm-wide and our participation with our practice area’s key centers of excellence (sports and recreation, environmental restoration, TOD, higher education).

Professional Symposiums/Publications

Being seen, heard and read is a key goal of our practice.  Take a proactive role in furthering our presence and leading staff to participate.  Work with our communications group to identify opportunities for articles and papers and prepare topics for development and release.

Project Management

It is expected that the candidate will be the project manager for projects in and around Boston. The candidate may also manage projects elsewhere.
Your Capabilities and Credentials:

This leader will be a high integrity manager and have a design-oriented background. She/He will be a strong leader and manager with a strategic mindset.  This leader will possess in-depth experience in the Urban Design market sector, with a proven track record as a key contributor to a global leadership team.

Basic requirements:

  • A degree in Urban Design or Architecture
  • Eight years of experience, including some background in consulting. 
  • The ability to be located in Boston
  • The ability to travel as required

Preferred characteristics:

  • The skill and knowledge to create, suggest and introduce innovative and effective client solutions and integrated deliverables
  • Experience in consulting to the public and private sectors.
  • Experience in building rapport and trust with key clients, business leaders, and team members
  • Teambuilding and influencing skills and strong mentoring capabilities
  • The ability to be proactive in his/her ability to be a market leader
