Description

With a population of 520,000, Fresno is the 5th largest city in California and 34th most populous in the United States. Its beautiful location in the agricultural heartland of the state and at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountain range makes it an ideal location for those who enjoy great food and outdoor recreation. An historic Downtown and walkable pre-war neighborhoods offer living arrangements for every New Urbanist’s taste. In recent years Fresno has been a leader in forward-thinking urban planning in California, instituting an infill-oriented General Plan, innovative form-based codes, streetscape improvements, 19 miles of Bus Rapid Transit service, and an effective Downtown revitalization strategy. 
 
The Planner III will work in the Long-Range Planning division of the Development and Resource Management Department on a variety of projects, including specific plans, Development Code updates, General Plan updates, urban design projects, open space plans, active transportation plans, and environmental review. 
 
Planner III is the advanced working class in the professional planning series. Under general supervision, Planner IIIs compile, analyze, and interpret data related to the more complex social, economic, population, and land use trends; prepares written reports on the most complex planning matters; and provide lead direction and training to subordinate planners.  Experience in land use entitlement processing, community engagement, long range planning experience, and preparation of CEQA documents is preferred.

Qualifications

TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have:  
 
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in urban planning, architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, geography or related field; 
 
-AND – 
 
Three years of experience equivalent to a professional planner within a planning agency.  Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

A valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record
