Job Description

You are an experienced professional who is considered an expert in Safe Routes to School programs, has strong people and project management skills, excellent outreach skills, and is looking for the next challenge in your career. You’ve worked for at least five years in SRTS program delivery and have three or more years working as a project manager.

As a Safe Routes to School Planning and Programs Specialist with our Southern California team, you’ll work with our multi-disciplinary group of planners, engineers, program specialists, and graphic designers to manage and implement SRTS projects. You’ll manage multi-school programs, lead walk audits, facilitate community outreach, work with school stakeholders, and work alongside community-based teaming partners to deliver 5 Es SRTS programming in urban, suburban and rural communities.  You’ll solidify Alta’s reputation as a national leader in SRTS and contribute to the continued growth and success of our outstanding SRTS practice.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced SRTS professional to take their career to the next level in managing high-profile SRTS projects. Our current workload includes education and encouragement programs, safety campaigns, equity analyses, evaluation studies, suggested route mapping, and engineering assessments for regional agencies, counties, local governments and school districts throughout California.  The location of this position is flexible for the right candidate, and may be located in our Los Angeles or San Diego offices, or may be based elsewhere in Orange County or the Inland Empire.

Qualifications

As an Associate Programs Specialist, you have at least a Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, marketing, planning or other related field. You’re proficient in MS Office suite, familiar with project and time management methods, exhibit strong initiative and ability to market Alta’s SRTS services through RFPs and other marketing activities, and have the ability and willingness to travel throughout California.  Preferably, you are a National SRTS Instructor and/or League Cycling Instructor; have experience with Adobe Creative Suite, ESRI Arc GIS, or similar products; and experience writing and presenting white papers or providing expert level presentations at conferences and other events promoting SRTS and active transportation.
