Job Description
Works under the direction of the Administrator of Comprehensive Planning in the Office of Comprehensive Planning on the development, update, and implementation of a comprehensive plan for the City of Memphis. Contributes to development of recommendations related to land use, transportation, public facilities, housing, economic growth and development, neighborhood stabilization, quality of life, civic engagement, and budget impact. Provides input on development of regulations, ordinances, and policies. Develops plans and studies for communities, districts, or city systems. Prepares reports and correspondence to support findings. Maintains plan related data and information. Coordinates with other city divisions and external stakeholders to gain input and support relevant to the comprehensive plan. Conducts meetings and planning presentations by driving to various locations across the City.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in City or Regional Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, or related field and two (2) years of experience in planning, urban design, architecture, transportation, GIS/analytics, civic engagement, or community development; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Master's degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment. Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaking abilities strongly preferred. Working experience with relevant software such as ArcGIS, SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred. Accreditation from American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or Congress of the New Urbanism (CNU-A) is preferred.
