The Job

We are looking for a mid-level Landscape Architect to join our collaborative team in Detroit, MI. At this Project Manager level, you will be responsible for working on and/or leading a full range of projects from urban design and master planning through to the delivery of construction phase documents and construction administration services – mostly on urban projects, often right here in the City of Detroit. Additionally, you will become involved in scoping work for proposals and developing the project approach and work plans for some of our upcoming work.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design and manage landscape architecture (and sometimes planning) projects.
  • Develop, modify and review drawings for landscape architecture projects. Yup, sometimes planning too.
  • Demonstrate your creative thinking abilities and contribute to design collaboration and problem solving.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of the relationship between design and constructability.
  • Incorporate Sustainable Design solutions into all projects.
  • Participate in managing client relationships. We love our clients and are committed to maintaining positive relationships.
  • Ensure livingLAB document standards are met.
  • Assist in preparation of proposals and actively participate in interviews and public presentations.
  • Take time to understand company agreements, contracts and deliverables and ensure livingLAB standards for project management are met.
  • Actively promote collaborative thinking.
  • Foster a commitment to our clients and their communities based in our triple-bottom-line culture.
  • Assist in helping creatively market livingLAB through web, social media, word-of-mouth, and attending events.

The Details

  • You must be proficient in AutoCAD. 
  • MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook should be second nature.
  • Are you a guru at Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, GIS, and InDesign? Let’s talk!
  • Do you have the ability to develop photo-realistic renderings? Wow, color us impressed.
  • You must have strong communication skills - verbally, graphically, and in writing. Critically important.
  • Do others refer to you as “a people person”? Have a good sense of humor and not take yourself too seriously? Love it!
  • Being organized and having the ability and mindset to work hard and meet quick deadlines is critical. If this isn’t your thing, we might not be your best choice.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in landscape architecture plus 5 to 7 years’ experience; or equivalent in appropriate education and experience required. Registration with current license desired.
  • Experience working with the public; comfort and confidence speaking to large groups of diverse individuals.
