The City of Clearwater is hiring a Planner II or III to join our Planning & Development Department in the Development Review Division. This team plays a key role during an exciting phase of transformation for Clearwater. Our community is largely built out, and we’re focused on redevelopment and improving Clearwater’s built environment to ensure thoughtful, high-quality growth.
In this role, you’ll ensure development proposals comply with the City’s zoning and land- use regulations to support Clearwater’s goals for orderly growth, quality design, and economic development. You’ll guide projects from concept through permitting, applying the City’s standards to achieve a well-designed built environment. The position also contributes to implementing the City’s special area plans for Clearwater Beach, Downtown, and the U.S. 19 corridor.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across the Department, including Long-Range Planning, Construction Services, and Code Compliance, as well as with other City departments and the development community.

Sample Tasks for This Role
- Review and process a wide variety of planning and development applications, including site plans, lot splits, signage, landscaping, docks/fences, plats, and temporary uses.
- Provide professional customer service and technical assistance to applicants, design professionals, property owners, and City staff.
- Prepare clear and concise staff reports, and present findings and expert testimony at quasi-judicial hearings (for Planner III) before the Community Development Board and/or City Council.
- Participate in site visits, field studies, community outreach, and countywide work groups.
