Planning Division Manager (Long Range)
Salary: $95,000 and up

The Role
As Planning Manager, you will lead a talented team of urban planners working at the intersection of design, policy, and equity. You’ll guide complex, multi-layered projects while building the systems, culture, and capacity of the Planning Studio to support the next phase of our firm’s growth.
This is a leadership position for someone who believes in shared value, cares deeply about people and place, and thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a team of 4 to 8 planners, cultivating a high-performing and collaborative studio culture
- Oversee a range of planning and urban design projects—including comprehensive plans, form-based codes, neighborhood and corridor plans, housing initiatives, and private development frameworks
- Embed New Urbanist principles in plans and policy recommendations, with a focus on walkability, placemaking, and resilience
- Facilitate community engagement processes and serve as primary liaison for planning clients
- Ensure high-quality, on-time deliverables while managing budgets, timelines, and subconsultant coordination
- Collaborate across disciplines—architecture, economic development, and community engagement—to deliver holistic outcomes
- Present work to city councils, planning commissions, and public audiences
- Contribute to proposals, interviews, and business development strategy
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in urban planning, including 3+ years in a leadership or project management role
- CNU-A credential or equivalent experience applying New Urbanist design principles
- Strong understanding of zoning, land use, mobility, and urban design
- Skilled in visual, written, and verbal communication
- Proficient in tools such as ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, etc.
- Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Willingness to travel and attend some evening or weekend meetings
- Experience working with public sector clients and participatory engagement
- Familiarity with development processes and land development codes
