About GoTriangle:
Since 1989, GoTriangle has served as the regional public transportation authority for Durham, Orange, and Wake counties. We provide vital services including regional and express bus, paratransit, ridematching, vanpools, and more. We also support commuters through resources like the Emergency Ride Home program and operate the GoTriangle Regional Information call center. Our service area includes key communities such as Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, and the Research Triangle Park.
The Opportunity:
As Principal Planner, you’ll be at the forefront of GoTriangle’s planning initiatives, managing large, high-visibility projects that shape the future of transit in our region. You will work closely with regional stakeholders, municipal governments, and state and federal partners to advance critical transportation projects. Whether it's long-range transit planning, capital projects, or transit-oriented development, your leadership will ensure that GoTriangle continues to meet the growing demands of our vibrant communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, development, and implementation of major transit projects with limited oversight.
- Manage the development of regional transportation plans, facilities, and environmental assessments.
- Represent GoTriangle in discussions with government officials, local boards, and community groups.
- Develop presentations and reports to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
- Secure funding and manage consultant-led studies, overseeing contracts, budgets, and schedules.
- Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to ensure integration across finance, operations, and other teams.
What We're Looking For:
- Education & Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, or a related field is required (Master’s preferred), along with at least seven years of relevant experience. AICP certification is preferred.
- Skills: Strong project management, leadership, and communication skills are essential. Proficiency in GIS, project management tools, and the Microsoft Office suite is also necessary.
- Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of regional transportation planning and an ability to navigate federal and state regulations.
