Climate Equity Planning Manager

Salary: $75,000 - $105,000

Greenprint Partners is seeking a Climate Equity Planning Manager based in Chicago, IL to join the Greenprint team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a growing portfolio of climate resilience and green infrastructure work, support climate resiliency efforts across the country, and manage a growing team of planners. The position reports to the Vice-President of Equitable Planning, Kristin Ihnchak. The ideal candidate brings a passion for working at the intersection of climate resilience and equity, is a strategic thinker who can cohere structure and action from ambiguity, and is an experienced program, project, and people leader who values diverse perspectives.

General Responsibilities

  • Envision and lead the development and implementation of equitable climate resilience and green infrastructure programs, strategies and plans for municipalities, counties, and water utilities;
  • Work in strong partnership with clients and underrepresented communities by providing technical expertise and guidance on climate change adaptation and mitigation measures that suit their individual needs, concerns and priorities;
  • Oversee resourcing and assignments for a dynamic team of planning professionals;
  • Provide mentorship and support for junior staff, including delegating tasks with clear guidance, reviewing their work for accuracy and clarity, and providing constructive feedback and career development guidance while working on projects together;
  • Conduct comprehensive climate risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and develop appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies;
  • Conceptualize, prepare and deliver clear, accessible and concise reports, presentations, and other deliverables to clients and stakeholders;
  • Apply for grant applications and project proposals to secure funding for climate resilience projects;
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other planners, engineers, landscape architects, communications professionals and more to develop integrated and actionable climate solutions;
  • Develop and conduct trainings, community outreach and engagement activities to raise awareness and build support for climate resilience initiatives; and
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution and client satisfaction.

While your work and project portfolio will evolve over time as you grow professionally and as Greenprint grows as a company, during the first year you can expect to lead projects and initiatives such as…

  • Overseeing implementation of a $6 million program that will create green stormwater infrastructure in underinvested communities;
  • Creating, executing, and refining a resourcing tracking and deployment system to effectively manage our team of planning professionals;
  • Playing a key role in developing and growing a planning practice that specializes in developing climate resilience plans that advance equitable infrastructure. Within 12-18 months, we would like this team member to independently lead Greenprint’s climate equity practice.

Desired Experience and Characteristics

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in climate resiliency planning or a related field, ideally working in government, consulting or a non-profit.
  • A minimum of one year of supervisory experience is preferred, but not required. A passion to learn and grow as a manager is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently, think critically and propose innovative solutions.
  • Exceptional program and project management skills, including the ability to effectively develop program/project plans, manage budgets, oversee teams and meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Passion for and demonstrated excellence and integrity in equity and environmental justice, stakeholder engagement, and frontline community partnerships, and navigating diverse stakeholder perspectives and priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and in a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, partners, stakeholders, community-based organizations and residents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in person and when working remotely.
