Salary: $88,238.40- $132,357.60 (DOE)

Description
The City of Cibolo invites management professionals who are interested in a full-time position as an Assistant Director of Planning to apply to join our amazing City! This exciting position works Monday - Friday during typical business hours as well as occasional evening hours when attending meetings of monthly Boards and Commissions, as well as certain City Council meetings. As our Assistant Director of Planning, you will play a crucial role in representing the City and ensuring effective administration of land use ordinances in accordance with the Unified Development Code (UDC) and the City’s Comprehensive Plan. You'll oversee daily operations within the planning department, manage and supervise a team, and lead innovation to achieve department and city goals. Performs specialized work in support of applicable boards, commissions, and committees, and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Planning Director. Provides technical services in connection with planning and executing a variety of City programs.

The Assistant Director of Planning oversees a staff of three (3) full-time employees, including urban planners and a planning technician, and works closely with the City Engineer and City Attorney’s Office on development related matters. This position is responsible for managing the current development process in compliance with the UDC, the City’s local ordinances, and state law; ensures alignment between plans and regulations. Provides a variety of routine and complex planning, zoning, historic preservation, code compliance, and technical work in the administration of municipal government. Assists with budget preparation and administration at the request of the Planning Director. Provides information to other city departments upon request.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Urban/Regional/Community Planning, Public Administration, Urban Studies/Affairs, Architecture, Business Administration, or related field; AND at least seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal planning, project management, a variety of comprehensive planning, and development services programs, including at least two (2) years of supervisory or team-leading experience; OR any combination of education and experience that results in the applicable skills, knowledge, and abilities is required. An American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and/or a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is also required.
