Job Description
The Associate Urban Planner will help promote sustainable, quality development and place-making in the City of Wilmington. With the Create Wilmington Comprehensive Plan now in place, this position will take on a wide range of planning and design projects to further a new dynamic vision for the city. Efforts will focus especially on implementation of the Comprehensive Plan, including refinements in the city’s growth strategies, changes in the city’s land development code, and preparation of special area plans and projects. This position will also assist with urban design duties of the Urban Designer.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture or closely related field. A degree in environmental planning, historic preservation or other field of planning may be acceptable with a relevant curriculum component or training in design and illustrative skills.
Experience
At least one year of relevant experience in the planning and urban design field. Examples of representative work projects required. Familiarity and basic competency in the use of design software such as Sketch Up, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCad, 3D Modeling Rendering preferred.
Hiring Range ($46,540 - $53,000 Annually)
The starting annual salary for the associate urban planner position will be market competitive depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. In addition, the City of Wilmington offers an attractive benefits package, summarized above right.
