Job Titles:

Two Assistant/Associate Professor Positions in Environmental Design, University of Colorado Boulder

Description:

The Environmental Design Program (ENVD) of the University of Colorado Boulder is recruiting two faculty (tenured/tenure–track) in Environmental Design: one at the Assistant Professor level and a second at either the Assistant or Associate level. Both positions are expected to begin in August 2016. CU Boulder is committed to spearheading the next generation of Environmental Design by integrating knowledge of sustainable solutions for the built and natural environment with holistic design thinking. We seek candidates whose work reflects the program’s vision of sustainable design that blends technical, ecological, economic, social, cultural, aesthetic, and ethical concerns, and embodies a spirit of service to diverse communities, social justice, and ecological resilience. Candidates in any field of environmental design including architecture, landscape architecture, and planning are eligible. We seek scholars with:

  • strong transdisciplinary interests including a record of teaching and publication that joins design theory and practice to research in allied fields such as urban design, geography, ecology, public health, and engineering;
  • a record of research or practice resulting in significant peer reviewed publications or nationally-recognized design projects;
  • a program of distinguished transdisciplinary and collaborative research that promises to significantly advance the theory or practice of sustainable design for natural and/or built environments;
  • a defined and articulated teaching philosophy that integrates themes of sustainable design with innovative research and practice, and demonstrated ability to teach in a research-active university setting and lead student research at the graduate level; and
  • evidence of promise or success in securing extramural research funding.

The selected candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate environmental design studio, lecture, and seminar courses relevant to areas of focus mentioned above. The candidates will have opportunities to teach, advise, and mentor students in Masters and PhD programs that are administratively allied with the Environmental Studies Program. In addition to teaching and research, the candidates will contribute to curriculum/program development and related academic committee work.

The minimum qualification is a PhD or equivalent experience. Candidates should demonstrate national leadership in their area of research. Salary and start-up packages are competitive and commensurate with experience. Both positions are 9 month/100% time.

The Environmental Design Program at CU Boulder (http://www.colorado.edu/envd/) offers a Bachelor of Environmental Design with more than 4,300 alumni. For almost 50 years, the program has been cultivating critical and creative thinkers, designers, and planners. The unit provides students with innovative interdisciplinary education, practice, and advanced study in the design-based fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and planning, as well as the opportunity to apply design thinking to a variety of other possible careers.

For full consideration, candidates should apply by November 10, 2015. The position will remain open until filled. For the complete posting and to submit applications, please go to online to http://www.jobsatcu.com/postings/108521.
