Abstracts sought for IMCL

International Making Cities Livable is calling for abstracts for two 2024 conferences—one in Newport, Rhode Island, and the other in Cortona, Italy.

Following the 2023 conference in Poundbury, Dorchester and London, UK, the International Making Cities Livable (IMCL) announced two 2024 conferences in Newport, Rhode Island, (April 28-30) and Cortona, Italy (October 1-5).

IMCL is calling for 300-word abstracts for papers for both conferences. “As humanity confronts multiple historic challenges, our settlements and their characteristics will play a central role – especially so in a time of historic rapid urbanization,” ICML states. “Our cities, towns and suburbs are where we interact, move about, consume resources, develop and deploy our technologies, and create most of the impacts we are having on planet Earth. In that sense, our settlements are major contributors to our challenges – but they also offer an important platform for joining up key issues of emissions and contamination, resource use and depletion, and ecological destruction, as well as opportunities for equitable human development, health, and well-being.”

The title for Newport is “Making Cities Livable: Research Into Communication and ACTION,” while the Cortona event is “The Ecology of Cities: Learning from Nature, Culture and History.”
