A three-day design workshop was conducted recently to examine new urban development alternatives for Ashford Barracks, England, a 132-acre brownfield site owned by the Ministry of Defense. The workshop was led by Ashford Borough Council, the Ministry of Defense, and The Prince’s Foundation. Ashford’s growth over the last 30 years has been disjointed, and now “there is a real opportunity … to deliver a new urban quarter for Ashford that generates a sustainable new community with a distinctive identity reflecting the towns past,” according to Richard de Cani of The Prince’s Foundation.
