Plans are progressing for a 110-mile Texas commuter rail line running from San Antonio to Georgetown, 30 miles north of Austin. The Austin-San Antonio Intermunicipal Rail District selected PBS&J and its team of eight subconsultants to provide program management services for the line, which is intended to make the Interstate 35 corridor operate more efficiently both for inter-city commuters and for US-Mexico freight traffic. Passenger trains may start running in six to seven years. The multifaceted project could cost $550 million, according to PBS&J.
