Organization News

Michigan new urbanists will soon have a new CNU chapter to help focus their efforts in creating a more walkable, sustainable, neighborhood-based Michigan. On January 23, fifteen CNU members came together in Lansing, Michigan, for the second meeting of the organizing committee to form a CNU Michigan chapter. The group is off to a strong start and has already formed partnerships with the Michigan Association of Planning (a chapter of the APA), Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), and Michigan Municipal League (MML). The committee developed by-laws, created a three-year plan and elected its initial officers at the meeting: chair Leslie E. Kettren, AICP, PCP, president of Kettren & Associates Inc. and former board member of APA; vice chair Terry Sanford, AIA, director of planning and design at Nederveld Associates; and secretary/treasurer Denise Cook of the City of Adrian. The next meeting of the Michigan chapter organizing committee is scheduled for March 12, 2008, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., at the MSHDA Lansing offices, 735 E. Michigan Avenue. All Michigan CNU members are invited to be a part of the chapter organizing committee to help guide the founding of the state chapter. Contact Leslie Kettren at michigan@cnu.org for more information.
