A new awards program aims to identify the best in environmental design research and practice. Sponsored by the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) and the journal Places, the program will include two categories of awards. “Design research” awards will recognize projects that investigate the relationship between physical form and human behavior or experience. “Place design” awards will recognize completed projects that demonstrate excellence as human environments. The program is open to designers and researchers from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, planning, urban design, interior design, lighting design, graphic design, environmental psychology, sociology, anthropology and geography. Winners will be announced at EDRA’s March, 1998 conference in St. Louis, and featured in the summer, 1998, issue of Places. Contact: Todd Bressi, Places, (718) 399-6090; or Janet Singer, EDRA, (405) 330-4863.
