LeylandAlliance is teaming with Habitat for Humanity to develop several parcels of land in the downtown historic district of Newburgh, New York, and reconfigure them into affordable housing. The new urbanist firm is the master developer of the Newburgh Waterfront project, designed by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Co. The buildings are designed as two- or three-story structures — the scale of historic buildings in the neighborhood. Seven units are proposed as Habitat for Humanity homes, with the remaining lots developed by LeylandAlliance at what the firm calls “workforce” market prices. “Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity adds an important dimension to LeylandAlliance’s involvement with the City of Newburgh” says Louis Marquet, executive vice president for Leyland. “Affordable housing is a key component of the vision for mixed-use urban communities, and we’re thrilled to participate in making it become a reality here.”
