Fannie Mae, the nation’s largest source of financing
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    JUL. 1, 1999
Fannie Mae, the nation’s largest source of financing for home mortgages, recently committed to invest $1 billion in the four-year “House Washington” initiative. House Washington is a nine-point plan to remove regulatory barriers to residential development, expand homeownership and rental opportunities, and meet community development needs in Washington, DC.
Fannie Mae plans to invest in employer-assisted housing plans, single-family loan products with flexible underwriting, and “high-impact” capital investments in poor neighborhoods. The initiative will also help reclaim city-owned properties and launch a homeownership initiative.
