Arcadia Land Co. received planning commission approval

Arcadia Land Co. received planning commission approval to build the first two parts of a development in Independence, Missouri. The land is being purchased from the Community of Christ, otherwise known as the Mormon Church. The project, planned as a new urban community by Calthorpe Associates, includes 890 homes on 400 acres in the two sections, called Village One and Crenshaw. A town center is planned within walking distance of the homes. Arcadia still faces opposition to final approval, including residents of nearby suburban subdivisions who are suspicious of New Urbanism and the Mormon Church, and are concerned about traffic. Arcadia partners are Joe Duckworth, Chris Leinberger, and Robert Davis, the developer of Seaside.
