Envision Utah, a public/private grassroots coalition, recently conducted a survey with Utah residents to determine their preferences for future growth and development in the state. A significant majority of the 17,000 respondents chose the two growth scenarios that closely follow new urbanist principles. Both scenarios feature mixed-use, walkable communities with smaller lot sizes, mixed-use town centers, a variety of housing, and expanded transit systems. Respondents were most concerned about air quality, water usage, transportation, and land usage issues, which the two new urbanist-influenced scenarios addressed effectively.
