CNU goes local
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    MAR. 1, 2000
For years, CNU members in various parts of the country have urged us to work more on the local level. We have generally demurred out of concern that we would end up spending all our time on local issues and neglect the big picture. Our new Regional Partnerships program will allow us to focus on local areas as case studies while remaining true to our larger mission.
Starting as soon as we hire a project leader, we will be developing partnerships with local activists and governments in three initial regions: Boise, Idaho; the Sierra Nevadas of California; and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rather than going in and telling the regions what to do, we will provide roadside assistance as the local activists power through the day-to-day work of implementing the New Urbanism. We expect to help in tricky political situations, provide technical information, and connect locals to our members’ expertise.
The CNU is searching for someone who can fill the role of project leader. A complete job announcement is on our website at www.cnu.org. Please pass on the word, and have qualified applicants write to CNU at 5 Third Street, Suite 725, San Francisco, CA 94103, or fax 415 495-1731.
