Robert Orr & Associates is also designing a proposed mixed-use redevelopment along the Quinnipiac River in the Fair Haven Heights section of New Haven for an investment group that includes Joel Schiavone, his daughter Allyx Schiavone, and investors from New York and Boston. Old buildings near a picturesque “swing bridge” are to be renovated or expanded. New construction would be added, creating a sociable, approximately one-acre blend of residential, retail, and restaurant activity. The development is called Dragon Point. Joel Schiavone is a dynamic New Haven businessman who transformed many neglected buildings along Chapel Street near Yale University in the 1980s, creating a handsome district of restaurants, boutiques, and upper-story apartments — still the city’s most thriving retail section.
