An illustrated, 20-page urban planning book for children, Where Things Are, From Near to Far, has been written by Chris Steins, editor-in-chief of the Internet-based planning site Planetizen, and by Tim Halibur, Planetizen’s managing editor. “If we teach kids how to build them, we will end up with better cities,” Steins told The New York Times. Illustrated by David Ryan, the colorful $19.95 book, from Planetizen Press, depicts a mother and son on a stroll through urban and somewhat less urban surroundings. The book is expected to benefit from the growth of interest in urban planning that’s occurred in recent years.
