New Urbanism: Rx for Healthy PlacesAtlanta, May 19-22, 2010»»»Putting Out the Fire on Street Design

Description:
To a New Urbanist, narrowing streets and creating pedestrian
friendly environments can help calm auto traffic, save
lives, and reduce injuries. To an emergency responder narrow
streets and other traffic calming devices may slow
response times and impede operations. This session continues
a great tradition of inviting critics of the New Urbanist
approach to share their arguments and explore solutions.
Join experts from both sides of the issue as they discuss
whether new urbanist streets compromise citizens’ wellbeing.
