Job Description:
KAI is looking to add a Urban Designer in the Orlando office to work with a team of progressive transportation professionals. This is an opportunity to join a team of thought leaders & entrepreneurs at a growing, values-driven international traffic engineering and transportation planning consulting firm. The successful candidate will have 3 -5 years of experience in urban design related to multi-modal transportation planning and design combined with the following: strong graphic and writing capabilities, an ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment, and a keen interest in public transit and non-motorized forms of transportation. This position will provide support for a variety of transit and multi-modal planning projects, including corridor studies, analyses of transit and multi-modal facility designs, and land use analyses and urban design. Work will be conducted from the Orlando office, but projects will be located throughout the US.
Responsibilities:
- Incorporates ideas in land use, landscape architecture and urban design with planning and designing multi-modal transportation solutions
- Visually communicate project content, including the graphic production of plans, maps, diagrams, massing models, and the graphic representation of data, design concepts, and processes.
- Create photo-renderings, concept sketches, or computer aided designs as required for projects.
- Develop written text for project reports, presentations, and other products.
- Assist with the preparation for and provide support at public and client meetings.
- Assist with the preparation and layout of project reports and proposals.
- Ability to incorporate ideas in land use, landscape architecture and urban design with planning and designing multi-modal transportation solutions
Requirements:
- Relevant degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and/or civil engineering with a focus in urban transportation planning
- Possesses verbal, written and graphical/visualization skills to explain ideas to elected officials, managers, decision-makers, and technical engineering staff
- Knowledgeable in Adobe Suite and SketchUp or similar 3D graphics software
- Knowledgeable in reading and translating maps, roadway plans, construction drawings, master/land use plans and policies
- Must work well in team environments
- Must communicate well with engineers, planners and members of the general public
- Knowledge of GIS software a plus
