Job Description:

We are seeking a talented, articulate professional urban designer with 5-10 years of experience to manage urban design projects at a variety of scales, develop the skills and capabilities of junior team members, and actively promote the culture and vitality of great urban places. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage project schedules, budgets, work flow, communication, and client deliverables
  • Manage team and consultant schedules, project load, and staff utilization
  • Collaborate and provide project strategy and direction with teammates and project leadership
  • Provide quality control
  • Mentor, educate, and inspire junior staff and creatively solve problems
  • Attend project meetings, organize outcomes, and succinctly disseminate project direction to team members
  • Contribute to the curiosity, culture, and energy of the office
  • Participate in continuing education and advocacy both inside and outside the office
  • Lead the creation and management of office standards, templates, and resources

Skills Required:

  • Strong project management capabilities (schedules, deadlines, budgets, organization, etc)
  • Personality that proactively engages clients (current and prospective) and collaborators
  • Ability to shift gears quickly and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to take conceptual direction in meetings and remotely and translate into actionable team tasks and deliverables
  • Analyze and document urban conditions through photography, measuring, research, mapping and data analysis
  • Hand drawing and diagramming capabilities
  • Computer programs: Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Microsoft and Google programs, GIS, and Ajera (or similar)
  • Graphic design
  • Knowledge of building, parking, streets, transportation (transit, bike, etc), and public space types (proficiency at common dimensions, programmatic requirements, proportion, scale, and adjacencies)
  • Be able to analyze and quantify proposed development
  • Produce world-class visualizations of design concepts including but not limited to: analysis and explanatory diagrams, illustrative plans, street sections, 3D models, infographics, and conceptual public space and building architecture
  • Ability to efficiently explain and document design in slide shows, documents, exhibits, and on the web
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally, in writing, and through drawing
  • Ability to design and lead public and stakeholder engagement in projects

​Education & Experience:

Bachelors and/or Master’s degree in architecture and/or urban design plus 5-10 years’ minimum experience. Planning and landscape architecture degrees are acceptable with a minimum five years of experience in urban design.
