Job Description:
The City of Clearwater Planning and Development Department is seeking a professional project coordinator to perform public engagement work and to provide enhanced collaboration with neighborhoods in community building initiatives and support of public safety, infrastructure and quality of life improvements. The Coordinator will help develop neighborhood projects that solve neighborhood problems and contribute to a strong sense of community. Work requires considerable contact with City officials, other governmental agencies, commissions, boards and the public, and requires independent judgment, initiative, ingenuity and tact. Selected candidate must have the ability to attend evening and weekend meetings and events.
Major duties and responsibilities will include: developing a Placemaking manual, process and program in support of public improvements that address neighborhood economic, social, safety, resilience and infrastructure challenges; developing a system for evaluating and measuring the impacts of such projects; planning and coordinating Neighborhood Day and related activities; working collaboratively with employee teams, across departments, to develop a systems approach for neighborhood outreach on key City priorities and initiatives; coordinating and monitoring the implementation of neighborhood and capital projects in conjunction with city departments; planning and design for various urban interventions, public activation strategies and capital improvement initiatives; play a supporting role in major City initiatives requiring outreach to the public; establishing strategies to enhance information flow and citizen participation; assisting neighborhood groups to utilize processes to resolve issues; facilitating neighborhood meetings; establishing relationships and developing strategies for engagement; developing partnerships with residents, neighborhood associations and others to facilitate neighborhood vitality and a strong sense of community.
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Environmental Design, Urban Design, Public Administration or related field and (3) three years of experience in neighborhood planning, volunteer/project management. Working knowledge/experience of tactical urbanism, Placemaking and public engagement techniques is desirable. Local government experience is preferred.
