Business Development / Marketing Director

Torti Gallas + Partners is an Architecture, Urban Design and Planning Firm seeking a creative Business Development/Marketing Director to join our transformational design practice based in Washington, D.C. The primary role for the Business Development / Marketing Director is to work inside and outside the Firm to lead strategic and entrepreneurial business development efforts, with additional responsibilities to include marketing and PR coordination, strategic and hands-on support of proposals, and internal and external communications. Through close collaboration with our Partners and clients, this role will involve researching new business opportunities, being the Firmwide point of contact for new business leads, and overseeing the proposal process across our four offices. The Business Development/Marketing Director will work closely with Firm Leadership and related Resource staff and Directors to contribute creative writing for the production of qualifications packages, proposals, presentation and marketing materials, and award submissions.


  • Strategize and coordinate Firmwide business development efforts.
  • Seek new opportunities.
  • Maintain lead tracking and monitor results.
  • Set up and/or coordinate new meetings with potential clients and institutions.
  • Participate in preparing qualification packages to include writing, strategic oversight, and quality control.
  • Lead go/no-go decision-making process.
  • Collaborate with Communications/PR/Graphics teammates and Business Segment Leaders to develop strategies for major Firm pursuits.
  • Drive large, strategic, and complex ‘Chase’ and RFP/RFQ/RFI submissions from proposal writing and coordination through interview. Contribute to ‘storytelling’, visual theming and strategic messaging. Develop creative ideas for effective proposals and interview content.
  • Maintain contact database.
  • Present opportunities and manage all business development tasks to be completed by Leadership Team and technical and creative staff, ensuring timely execution and follow through.
  • Support website updates and maintenance.
  • Participate in the development and updating of collateral materials that support our markets, offices, and services.
  • Provide marketing research for overall market/Firm strategy, as well as individual clients and pursuits.
  • Develop strong, in-depth knowledge of Firm’s portfolio, personnel, and offerings.
  • Develop subject matter expertise (across markets, typologies, services, technology or other) that adds value to our marketing initiatives and pursuit activities.
  • Develop and implement annual Firmwide BD/Marketing strategic plan and goals.
  • Develop and manage annual marketing budget.
  • Develop annual reporting on marketing results.
  • Represent the Firm at external industry events.

  • In collaboration with team members, contributes to clear and consistent work plan to achieve the project marketing budget, deliverables, goals and schedule.
  • Contributes to the implementation of environmental and human sustainability strategies in all project assignments, and the associated development of staff knowledge.
  • Contributes to the development of standards, policies, and procedures.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified candidates must have an Associate’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in the AEC and/or Professional Services industry, including the Washington DC architecture and design community and professional trade associations
  • Exhibits entrepreneurial and strategic approach to a fully integrated marketing campaign.
  • Excellent creative writer.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members inside and outside the Firm.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively juggle multiple deadlines.
  • Detail oriented, accurate, initiative-taker.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
