Senior Planner - Downtown

Salary: $66,898 - $86,967 annual compensation

A Sr. Planner job is available with the City of Fort Worth Development Services Department. This position is primarily responsible for to maintaining the integrity and administering all applicable Zoning and Urban Design Standards to development projects in the Downtown core and adjacent areas.

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret complex planning, zoning, and land use activities for Commissions, Boards, developers and the general public
  • Develop Text and/or Map Amendments to the Zoning Ordinance
  • Act as the case manager as necessary throughout the entitlement process, permitting process, design standards and guidelines compliance until final approval
  • Prepare clear and concise reports for Council, Boards and Commissions with a primary, but not exclusive focus on the Downtown Design Review Board and the Zoning Commission
  • Planning public engagement events and making presentations to various community groups
  • Read construction drawings site and area maps including architectural, landscape, and other site design and use related items
  • Assist with development process including but not limited to entitlement process, permitting process, design standards and guidelines, and review process
  • Create, analyze, and interpret statistical and graphic planning information, while being able to build effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and staff
  • Updates themself on emerging land use and urban design concepts and best practice

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, or a related field from an accredited university
  • Five (5) years in Land Use Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in any of the above-mentioned areas
  • Specific experience with either zoning ordinance development, urban design, downtown development, infill redevelopment, or form-based codes
  • Experience preparing and presenting to Boards and Commissions
  • Experience reviewing development plans and facilitating projects
  • Spanish speaking skills
  • Working knowledge of the following software: Accela, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office
  • Attention to detail and methodic following of all steps in development approval processes
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-faced environment
  • Exemplary customer service, consistent teamwork, positive and proactive attitude, and professional accountability
