Just 18 miles from the Pacific Ocean, Escondido lies 30 miles northeast of San Diego and roughly 100 miles south of Los Angeles. This full-service city maintains a workforce of 970 FTEs and a FY 21-22 operating budget of $283.4 million. The Community Development Department is organized into four divisions and supported by 35 full-time positions and a FY 2021-22 budget of $7.9 million.

The incoming Director will help shape the future of Escondido and the department. The ideal candidate is a big-picture thinker with exceptional leadership and management skills coupled with familiarity with the development functions of a city. The city is seeking a manager who is comfortable with active community dialog, exhibits well- developed political acumen, and has the demonstrated ability to translate policy into action. A Bachelor’s degree and ten years of increasingly responsible experience in community development, planning, or public administration, including three years management/administrative responsibility, is required. Master’s degree highly desirable.
