Deputy Chief Operating Officer

Salary: $185,000

Description
The Deputy Chief Operating Officer is an executive-level leadership position reporting to the COO, and is responsible for overseeing the operations of Code Compliance, Community Development, DeKalb- Peachtree Airport, Geographic Information System (GIS), Human Services, Planning & Sustainability, and WorkSource departments, as well as permitting and economic development activities. Important duties include:

  • Providing executive leadership, strategic direction, and daily oversight for assigned departments; participating in key decisions as a member of the executive team
  • Reporting progress and activity to the COO, CEO, and BOC
  • Developing and implementing operational best practices and procedures consistent with the County's vision
  • Meeting and communicating with citizens and various professional, business, and community groups to answer inquiries

Professional judgment, excellent communication skills, technological savvy, and the ability to cultivate a positive workplace climate are essential.

To be minimally qualified, you must have a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field required with fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in public or business administration, with a minimum of five years of experience at the department head level in a large metropolitan government or comparable corporate environment. Preferred candidates will also have a relevant master’s degree and strong experience in urban planning or related field.
