Planning Director

Salary: $52,000.00 to $78,000.00

Description
The City of Cave Springs, Arkansas is accepting resumes for a Planning Director. The city is a small hometown community with dynamic growth and development potential conveniently located in the heart of everything that Northwest Arkansas has to offer. This is the first staff planning position for the city’s newly created planning department. This is a rare opportunity to start on the ground floor of a new planning department where your experience, vision and knowledge will be valued, and your contributions will shape the growth of the community and have a lasting and positive impact on people’s lives.

Cave Springs, with a population of over 5,500, is Arkansas’ fastest growing city per capita (at 218% since 2010) and Arkansas’ 11th fastest growing population, according to the 2020 Census. In addition to vibrant residential growth, Cave Springs has experienced early growth trends in retail, medical, and service sectors. Cave Springs is preparing for highway expansion and bypass, with trail connectivity, which provides an opportunity for a new highway retail district, as well as a separate historic downtown destination district for a diverse quality of life experience. Cave Springs is committed to developing a more walkable city with services and destinations for residents to enjoy.

This position reports directly to the mayor and is full time. As sole staff planner, responsibilities involve interaction with the public, guidance for applicants, support for the Planning Commission, and reports for the City Council. Duties include zoning and development review, subdivision review, staff support to the Planning Commission and members of the public. The staff Planning Director also aids in updating or revising zoning, subdivision, signage, and other planning-related regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Three years of progressively responsible planning experience.
  • AICP Certification is preferred.
  • Common Industry software proficiency preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent Customer Service skills
