Planning & Design Coordinator

This position will be focused on project management of development proposals within Design Overlay Districts, including in-fill, new construction, and historic buildings. This position will be expected to manage all Planning related reviews for proposals within the Design Overlay Districts, including zoning code reviews. This position is expected to have strong communication skills and will present findings to multiple Boards and Commissions. The successful candidate should have experience with reading and commenting on architectural plans and elevations. A strong background in architectural design and applying urban design guidelines is preferred.

Essential Functions
Plans and coordinates projects, operations, and/or activities concerning zoning, land use, subdivision, transportation regulations, studies and procedures, and urban design/historic preservation

Examples of Work

  • Plans, develops and implements programs, policies and procedures
  • Maintains departmental records and files
  • Assists in the development and dissemination of information and materials regarding programs and procedures
  • Coordinates community planning and zoning projects with governmental agencies, utility company representatives, engineers, and transportation agencies
  • Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning zoning, community planning, and implementation of laws, regulations, ordinances, principles, procedures and activities
  • Plans and coordinates projects, services, operations, and activities concerning zoning, land use, subdivision and transportation regulations and area studies
  • Provides the public with information concerning zoning, land use, subdivision, and transportation policies and procedures
  • Presents findings on transportation, community planning, zoning and subdivision projects at public hearings and committee meetings
  • Collects statistical data and prepares reports on activities, issues and operations
  • Performs related work

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields:
    • Architecture
    • Engineering
    • Geography
    • Historic Preservation
    • Landscape Architecture
    • Political Science
    • Regional Planning
    • Sociology
    • Urban Economics
    • Urban Planning
    • Related field
  • Three years of urban and regional planning; comprehensive or functional community planning; multi-modal transportation community planning experience; or urban design or historic preservation
