Director of Community & Economic Development

Salary: $120,000 to $130,000 annually

Job Description
The Town of Natick, is seeking candidates for the role of Director of Community & Economic Development. The Director of Community & Economic Development is responsible for providing overall management, coordination, and enforcement of building codes and ordinances; and regulation of the community development, planning, and permitting functions for urban development needs. The Director is also responsible for planning activities, including: a variety of highly technical planning tasks; plan review for developments, sites, plots, and other submittal documents; research and preparation of reports and agendas for the Planning and Zoning Commission; formal presentation to boards and committees recommendations for development and land uses in accordance with Town codes, ordinances, and regulations; assisting the general public and the development community regarding matters and concerns related to land use, development, and zoning; promptly responding to frequent inquiries; delivering clear and authoritative communication of policy and ordinance requirements to the public and the development community; the receipt and processing of applications; the research , preparation, and presentation of cases to the Planning and Zoning Commission, and other boards, as required; and regular attendance at community meetings, events, and work sessions.

Education and Experience
The Director of Community & Economic Development must fulfill the following qualification or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Master’s Degree in Urban Planning or a related field.
  • Minimum of Seven (7) years in municipal planning with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Special Requirements
Certification as a Town Planner by the AICP is desirable.
