Nassau County, is located in the northeast corner of Florida along the Atlantic Ocean and Interstate 95, and in close proximity to Jacksonville International Airport. With a population of almost 86,000 comprising 726 square miles, and a regional population of 1.5 million, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that Nassau County grew by 3.6% last year ranking as the 25th fastest growing county, by percent growth, in the United States. Over the next decade, the County is projected to be the ninth fastest growing county in Florida with a projected population of over 114,000 people calling Nassau County home.

A non-charter county with a Commission-Manager form of government, Nassau County is governed by the five-member Nassau County Board of Commissioners. The County seeks a pragmatic servant leader with a high degree of emotional intelligence, passion for public service, and a high sense of integrity and ethics to become its next Planning Director to oversee the operations of the Planning Department.

This position requires a master’s degree in urban planning, public administration, or a related field and a minimum of six years of experience in urban/municipal planning, some of which has been in a supervisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. Local government experience in the State of Florida is preferred. AICP certification is required within one year of hire date. Residency in Nassau County is encouraged but not required.
