Founded in 1978, CNT advances innovative public and private sector strategies aim at making cities better places for all by using natural and political resources efficiently, reducing pollution and creating local jobs. Cities across America and around the world have adopted CNT strategies to create more sustainable, equitable and resilient communities.

CNT’s next CEO will create a sturdy framework for encouraging creativity, assessing ideas, and harnessing those that have the greatest potential to maximize available resources and partnerships. The CEO will seize opportunities to expand earned revenue and grow the base of support from local and national funders, social venture investors, and strategic partners.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO, in partnership with the Board and other senior leaders, is responsible for strategic direction and financial sustainability for the organization. He or she will engage Board and partner resources strategically. The CEO will be responsible for raising adequate capital and funds to advance the mission and programs, and for managing resources to achieve program outcomes and sustainability. Strong management in the areas of human resources, finances, fundraising, grant compliance and management, constituent tracking, and program evaluation is required.

We seek a confident and entrepreneurial leader with demonstrated experience leading an organization through institutional change. The successful candidate will have a keen understanding of how technology can drive social change. The capacity to attract public- and private-sector resources to support CNT’s work as well as strong communications skills and marketing acumen are required. Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and motivate staff as well as financial management skills needed.

Advanced degree or equivalent experience in such fields as urban and regional planning or policy, urban design, environmental or energy/climate policy, real estate economics, communications/journalism/media is strongly preferred. Active participation in business and social clubs, civic organizations and community activities is a plus.
