James F. Murley is director of the Florida Atlantic University-Florida International University Joint Center for Environmental and Urban Problems in Fort Lauderdale. The center works with policy makers and the public to manage growth while preserving natural systems, promoting a strong economy, and planning livable communities. Mr. Murley previously led 1000 Friends of Florida, promoting sensible planning, economic development, and environmental preservation. An attorney, he also worked at the Florida Department of Community Affairs, where he helped draft and gain passage of Florida's landmark Growth Management Act. He graduated from George Washington University Law School in 1974 with a specialty in environmental and land-use law.
