Kevin Gardiner has a background in planning and architecture, including experience in both current and advanced planning and project management. Nearly two years ago he formed Kevin Gardiner & Associates (KGA) with a focus on design guidelines, form-based codes, feasibility analyses, and urban design plans for public and private clients. His work has included zoning and design analysis for the City of Palo Alto, California, a conceptual transit-oriented development plan for Eugene, Oregon, a land use plan for a 48-acre redevelopment site in Mountain View, California, and a planning issues workbook for the City of Scottsdale, Arizona. Prior to forming KGA, Kevin worked at the San Francisco urban design and architecture firm of Van Meter Williams Pollack, where he was involved in a range of planning projects including a “context-based” form code for the City of Palo Alto, an update of the Downtown Precise Plan for the City of Mountain View, and a “smart growth” code for the Ewa area of Oahu, Hawaii. Prior to Van Meter Williams Pollack, his experience included downtown and streetscape plans for the City of Menlo Park, California, and design guidelines for the Port of San Francisco. His overseas experience has included a new town for 50,000 residents near Jakarta, including circulation planning and streetscape design. As a contract planner, he has performed residential design review for a number of Bay Area communities.
