Principal Planner in Long-Range Planning Division
The City of Providence, Rhode Island is seeking a highly motivated individual with urban planning, community engagement and mapping and design skills and experience to join the long-range planning division as a Principal Planner.
Responsibilities include: identifying critical planning issues, advancing the work on a variety of planning topics and initiatives, conducting detailed analyses of redevelopment and revitalization opportunities, leading a participatory public engagement process, and managing a team of internal planners or external consultants. May serve as the project manager for planning activities with responsibilities that include: developing scopes of work, project work plans, and schedules; and coordinating phases of the assigned project's procurement process. Prepares draft and final reports, studies and analysis which address various planning issues and problems throughout the city. May serve as a liaison between public and private sectors, and the community and neighborhood groups for planning activities. Other responsibilities include developing community engagement strategies to ensure an inclusive, multi-stakeholder process and evaluating public support for project plans. Participates in intra-department and special project teams to review and comment on projects or proposals. Performs other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in urban planning, environmental planning, geography, public administration or related field is required as well as a minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience in urban land use planning and development.
