The Public Works Department is seeking an accomplished transportation professional to guide the implementation of Denver’s Strategic Transportation Plan.
The Denver Strategic Transportation Plan (STP) of Public Works defines a road map for a Transportation/Traffic policy, planning and design of an innovative, efficient, safe and sustainable transportation system that reflects our current and future mobility needs and community values.
The key to the implementation of this plan is to recognize our community‘s strong desire for multimodal solutions to our current and future transportation needs. The analysis and design of a viable urban environment that incorporates a wide range of options for our daily travel: pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and automobile.
This is a transformative approach to transportation that includes travel sheds or study areas within the City, defined by geographical boundaries with similar characteristics and serving similar travel patterns. By analyzing travel sheds rather than traffic corridors, the STP assumes the importance of moving people not just vehicles, recognizing that all trips begin and end with walking.
The successful candidate for the position of Transportation Director for the Department of Public Works will be selected by the Manager of Public Works, report to the City Engineer and be responsible for leading our Traffic Operations section (approximately 82 staff) and our Traffic Engineers (approximately 16 staff).
