Description: 

Position available January 2012 with SWA Group in the Houston office. 


Responsibilities:


• Assist senior designers with project design efforts within a collaborative team structure and contribute to the development of design concepts for planning and urban design projects or all types and scales.


• Oversee the design delivery process, including project management support and production of work products


• Participate in project design teams and understand the requirements of project agreements, budgets and schedules and deadlines


• Work in a creative, collaborative and focused way with other staff, Associates and Principals


• Assist in the preparation of proposals when necessary and participate in interviews and public presentations as needed


• Foster an environment of mutual respect and trust among team members through clear and consistent communication


 

Qualifications: 

• 2-5 years of professional urban design / physical planning / architectural experience


• Degree in Urban Design and / or Architecture / Landscape Architecture


• Experience and / or interest in traditional neighborhood design (New Urbanist) projects and one or more of the following: mixed-use urban projects, community planning, campus planning or transit-related projects


• Expertise in LEED-ND, sustainable design practices and / or LEED certification a plus


Required Skills:


• Exceptionally strong urban design / master planning skills


• Fluency in Mandarin and English is mandatory


• Excellent communication skills including graphics, presentations, writing and translation (verbal and written)


• Demonstrated ability to manage daily work flow of projects and maintain client relationships


• Proficiency in hand drawing / sketching, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp and MS Office
