Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Zoning Administrator, this position is responsible for the review of development plans (site plans, subdivisions, etc.) for conformity with the zoning ordinance and other technical requirements. Coordinates inter-agency plan review on behalf of the city and works closely with private sector design professionals.  Conducts field inspections periodically to certify conformity with approved plans and processes requirements for site bonds. Communicates regularly with the public and property owners on planning and zoning matters. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, or related field and three or more years of planning, design or zoning experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicants must possess knowledge of the legal provisions and standards applicable to planning and zoning in Virginia and have familiarity with interpreting development ordinances.  Applicants must have the ability to evaluate site plans and effectively communicate review findings. A valid driver's license with good driving record is required.  A Master’s degree in in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, or related field and AICP certification are preferred.

Hours:

MonMonday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Occasional evening meetings required.

Hiring Range:

$59,325 - $71,481 (City Grade 20)
