New data has come out quantifying office

New data has come out quantifying office workers’ support for retail, according to retail consultant and town planner Robert Gibbs. “A recent survey by the International Council of Shopping Centers found that office workers make a significant amount of purchases before and after work: 10 percent purchase cosmetics care, 20 percent purchase gifts, 25 percent purchase home items/furnishings, 28 percent purchase apparel, 30 percent purchase drugs and personal care items, and 40 percent purchase groceries,” Gibbs says. Gibbs Planning Group research indicates that each office worker directly supports 2 square feet of retail plus 5 square feet of restaurant space. Typically each office building has 1 worker per 200 square feet.
