The Metro Nashville Planning Department seeks an urban designer with a landscape architecture emphasis for its Design Studio division. This position plays a key role in a five-person multi-disciplined design studio that is changing the face of development in the Nashville area. The person filling this position will be involved in researching and developing solutions to urban design issues facing the community, both in an urban and suburban context. Job duties include, but are not limited to, project management and design assistance in the preparation, presentation, and implementation of planning and design studies in a participatory environment. The successful candidate will undertake original designs and critiques of urban design proposals, research and analyze planning studies, and present in verbal, written and graphic formats.

Qualifications: 

We are looking for a creative person with a passion for the application of urban design principles and traditional town planning practices that engender a sense of community. He or she will have demonstrated the ability to lead planning efforts and effectively communicate planning design ideas verbally and graphically using computer-based and hand-drawn methods of illustration. His or her education credentials will include a bachelor’s plus master’s or professional degree in community planning and/or design, architecture, or landscape architecture, with experience applicable to community, town, project planning and design. Relevant work experience may be substituted for the graduate degree.
