Victor Dover Pays Tribute to Ken Groves on the eve of the Inaugural Groves Awards

Groves Award

In a thoughtful and eloquent blog post, CNU Board Chair and Dover, Kohl, & Partners' principal Victor Dover shares his thoughts on the contributions and legacy of the late Montgomery, Alabama Planning Director Ken Groves. As Dover writes, Groves was part of "a special breed of public official in local government, one that thinks like an entrepreneur and likes making plans happen instead of just going through the motions." His numerous accomplishments in Montgomery have left behind a more practical, livable, and loved city than before. This year, CNU and the Transect Codes Council joined forces to create the Kenneth Groves Award in his honor, of which Dover stood as jury chair, and which "recognizes leadership and vision by public officials who promote and support transect-based planning."

Please join us this year at the Groves Award ceremony at CNU 19, as we honor the inaugural recipients, former Miami mayor Manny Diaz and Miami planning director Ana Gelabert-Sanchez, for their work on the landmark “Miami21” code. The Groves Award ceremony will be held at 5:30pm on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at CNU 19 in Madison.
