Educational Programs of Topic at Monona Terrace:

Terrace Town is a biennial project in which over 1,200 local elementary school children are challenged to design and build models of sustainable communities. Teachers work in partnership with approximately 50 volunteer "mentors"- architects, planners, and design professionals- to facilitate the students' work over several months. The culminating events for Terrace Town take place on March 23 & 24, 2011, where classrooms will display their sustainable box cities for public viewing. This program was awarded a special jury recognition by the Association of Architecture Organizations in 2010. There is a video of the program here: http://mononaterrace.com/community/all-programs/category/student_and_teacher_programs#terrace_town

Wright Design Series:

Monona Terrace initiated the Wright Design Series to combine facility access for the general public with a tangible connection to the world famous architect responsible for its creation. The series consists of 8 to 10 lectures per year and has filled a need for presentation and discussion relating to design trends not only architectural professionals, but design enthusiasts alike. This series serves a wide variety of people in addition to the general public: design professionals, students, and general learning enthusiasts from Dane County and beyond. This includes environmental designers (ie. landscape, sustainability and architecture), information designers (ie. graphic and digital design), experience designers (ie. gaming and virtual design) and object designers (ie. fashion, industrial, mechanical). The free lectures take place in the Spring and Fall of each year.
